Style Icon: David Bowie in Kansai Yamamoto

Posted: June 12th, 2013 | By:

David Bowie has been getting a lot of attention lately with his new album and an exhibit in London, but at Screaming Mimi’s what we’ve been thinking about are Bowie’s Kansai Yamamoto costumes from his days as Ziggy Stardust.

As Ziggy, Bowie donned bright, geometric stage costumes that took inspiration from samurai and sumo wrestler attire. Yamamoto’s designs merged traditional Japanese elements with modern art references and futuristic fabrics.

Is Shinique in Noho in 2013 or is she straight out of Carnaby Street, London in 1968? We can’t even believe we snatched up this vintage Jeff Banks dress, let alone in such great condition– it’s a major rarity! A contemporary of Ossie Clark, this Welsh designer definitely had fun with bright colors and outrageous prints. Find our Jeff Banks dresses on Ebay: http://bit.ly/19D56XL and check out Shinique’s adorable sunglasses, too: http://bit.ly/131NShC
